Barriers to progression: why supporting GCSE resits is crucial for learners
The Maths in FE project was delivered by the School of Education at the University of Brighton to FE colleges across Sussex including Chichester, Crawley, Sussex Downs, Sussex Coast, GB Met Brighton and Northbrook. It was developed to assist GCSE teaching staff supporting learners with maths resits, specifically those from our Uni Connect target wards. University staff worked supportively within each college, having agreed a programme of continuous professional development (CPD), working with individual tutors and whole maths teams. CPD opportunities included adapting teaching tools such as Numeracy Ninjas to support self-diagnosis and attendance, individual learning plans, and advice on using diagnostic and online resources.
