Learning Resources From Towner Eastbourne

Collaborating with St Catherine's College students to produce accessible learning materials

Commissioned by SLN, the Towner Eastbourne gallery has been working with students at local school St Catherine’s College to create engaging and accessible learning resources.

Sense Your Way is a guide to experimental art practices aimed at students in Years 10 and 11. Local artists Leap Then Look worked with Year 9 students at the school for six weeks to develop ideas for the materials, which include experiments and activities that involve using our senses to think about art differently. Designers Work-Form then created the workbook as well as two teaching resources with information on the project and how to use the workbook in school or independently to encourage creative activity and its associated health and wellbeing benefits. The Sense Your Way workbook can be downloaded from Further Information (right) or our Resources section.

This work with St Catherine's College built on an earlier Towner Eastbourne learning pack (produced during the first 2020 lockdown) by including student input. The 2020 pack, themed on air, earth, water and light, includes reusable resources and art-based activities with links to creative writing and illustration. Its activity sheets can be downloaded from Further Information, while the pack's impact can be reviewed in the case study.
