Boost your students' creativity with our new resources
We’ve been hearing from more and more teachers how hard it is to find high quality arts resources. So we’ve teamed up with the brilliant Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne and local artists Leap Then Look to come to the rescue…
Since the first Covid lockdown, The Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne has been producing art-based activity packs for students to use at home and school. It has also hosted a series of popular, interactive workshops through Instagram to ensure that young people can benefit from the boost to wellbeing that can come through being involved with creative projects.
As part of our Uni Connect programme, we’ve now funded the team at The Towner Art Gallery to enable them to extend this valuable work to reach even more students. Collaborating with local artists, Leap Then Look and with Art students from St Catherine’s College in Eastbourne, the team at Towner has created a brand new ‘Sense Your Way’ workbook and teacher resource.
These new teacher resources are available by clicking here or you can go directly to the student workbook by clicking here, all are free to download and invite young people to find the new in the everyday and to engage in fresh ways of looking, making and thinking. Through a series of experimental art exercises – like sculpting blindfold or using phone cameras to zoom in on the textures of everyday objects the workbook encourages students to explore how each of our sense informs how we see and feel art.
Christina Edgren Bawden, Head of Art & Photography at St Catherine’s College, led the team of students that helped co-create the resources over a number of workshops. She says of the project: “St Catherine’s pupils were able to see that art is not just about drawing and painting. Through the project they were shown imaginative ways to take an interest in your surroundings. There was a great sense of teamwork during some of the tasks and the pupils were really taken out of their comfort zones.
“What’s exciting about the resource is that it can be used in so many ways. You could base a scheme of work around it or it could be used individually with a child who has come to someone for pastoral support.”
