BrightMed applications now open
BrightMed is the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) Widening Participation Programme which identifies and supports young people across Sussex who have the potential to become tomorrow’s doctors.
BrightMed aims to instil confidence and develop vital skills in young people, enabling them to submit strong applications to medical schools throughout the UK. Providing advice, hands-on experience and practical exercises allow participants to make informed decisions concerning their future education; an approach that has already had great success.
The programme works with learners from Year 9 to Year 12 who live or study in Sussex, and who meet their criteria which can be found here. Learners currently in Year 8 to Year 11 can apply for BrightMed 2026/27.
The programme includes regular Saturday sessions on the University of Sussex campus. This will involve lectures, seminars, knowledge sessions and activities. Sixth form students who are part of BrightMed may also be eligible for the Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS).
To apply for BrightMed, learners should complete the online application form for their current year group.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 19th July 2026.
