The second edition of The Social Mobility List
Our mission is bold and unambiguous: to take social mobility from beyond the realms of the already initiated few and place it firmly in the mainstream, in our newspapers, on our televisions, across our social media feeds, and around our kitchen tables. The 2026 List reflects our expanded vision. Our 14 Movers and Shakers include not only the policy-makers, educators and corporate leaders who have long been champions of this cause, but also four household names; Adele, Alesha Dixon, Amol Rajan and Gary Neville, whose platforms and influence reach millions of people. These individuals understand something profound: that social mobility is not only about personal achievement but also about lifting others up, using one’s voice and influence to create opportunities for individuals who might otherwise get overlooked.
The inclusion of these recognisable figures is intentional. Social mobility should not be confined to annual conferences or corporate diversity initiatives. It affects every family, every community, and every young person wondering whether their background will determine their future. When voices that reach beyond our sector speak openly about the importance of levelling the playing field, they help normalise the conversation. They remind us that this is everyone’s issue—and that we all have a role to play in dismantling the barriers that hold talent back.
Beyond these individual champions, this List continues to showcase the programmes, organisations, and initiatives that are delivering tangible change across the UK.
