University of Brighton Saturday Clubs are back in 2026!
The University of Brighton’s popular Saturday clubs and holiday masterclasses are back! These clubs offer secondary school learners the chance to take part in subject-based projects led by University of Brighton staff and current students and give an insight into a range of subject areas. This academic year they are offering:
Years 7 and 8
- Sports studies masterclass on Tuesday 31st March, from 10am – 2.30pm. Learners will discover what it’s like to study sport at university. They will explore subjects including sports science, PE teaching, and strength and conditioning through a variety of different activities, seminars, and sports. Deadline for applications is 6th March.
Years 8 and 9
- Media holiday masterclass on Wednesday 18th February, from 10am – 3pm. Taking place on Wednesday of half term, students will experience a range of media subject tasters led by our academic staff. They'll explore sports journalism, representation in media, and media production (including a lighting, camera, and greenscreen workshop). It will be a fun, relaxed introduction to university and studying media. Deadline for applications is 30th January.
- Formula 24 club on 28th March, 11th & 25th April, 9th May, with race day tbc, from 10am - 2pm. Learners will work in teams to build, test-drive and race a F24 electric racing car. They will take part in a variety of fun engineering activities and a local race heat, sponsored by Greenpower, against teams from across the region at Goodwood Motor Circuit. They will receive expert guidance from technical staff and current university learners at the Advanced Engineering Centre. Deadline for applications is 6th March.
Years 10 and 11
- Geography, ecology and environmental science Saturday club on 31st January, 14th & 21st February and 7th March, from 10am – 1.30pm. Learners will explore science and nature in four fun sessions. They will explore how we encounter nature, investigating people-nature interactions; solve a wildlife crime using forensic science; discover where Brighton’s drinking water comes from; and design your own water filter. Participating in the University of Brighton Saturday clubs and holiday masterclasses is free. Learners are asked to commit to attending all sessions for the Saturday clubs, so please ask them to check that they are available for each session before they apply. As clubs are run as part of the university’s widening participation programme, priority is given to learners meeting their criteria which you can find here.
