We are excited to share our brand-new resources to support care experienced learners. They have been developed in partnership with the University of Sussex as part of the Uni & U programme.
What Next at 14, 16 & 18
A brand-new booklet for young people in care & with care experience. The booklet is aimed at young people who are currently living in care or living independently. This new edition has been adapted for care experienced young people with support and input from Become, the charity for children in care and care leavers. The booklet is split into sections including:
- Welcome to your future
- What next at 13 / 14
- What next after Year 11
- What next after Year 13
Reading the booklet and exploring the advice and support in it will help young people as they prepare their pathway plan.

Films by care leavers for care experienced young people
We have created three brand-new films working with care leavers across Sussex giving their advice about remembering what they wished they’d known at three key points in their education:
We worked with care leavers from the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex as well as young people through the Virtual Schools. We also worked with Become, highlighting their Propel into Work programme for care experienced young people.
They were interviewed by Miranda Glavin, a qualified Careers Advisor who runs Get Career Confident with us. The films provide real life experiences of young people who have been in care and can provide lived experience to inspire care experienced learners as they make key decisions about their futures.
