Save the date - What Next Sussex is fast approaching!
If you’re supporting Year 11 learners in making important pathway and career choices, make sure the 7th October is blocked out in your calendar and the calendar of learners, parents and carers now! It’s the date of our second What Next Sussex event, which is fast shaping up to be unmissable.
First hosted in 2020 to give young people vital pathway and career information during lockdown, What Next Sussex proved so popular that we are working with colleagues from across Sussex to offer the event again this year.
To register your interest in the free event, click here and make sure to circulate this link to parents and carers too. We’ll be hosting a live event from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm during the day for schools, and will hold an evening event from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm for learners to access with their parents and carers. The ‘one-stop-shop’ What Next Sussex event enables learners to talk directly with representatives from over 40 colleges, training providers, universities and employers from across our region, all ready to help them make key decisions about their future.
New for 2021, we have lots of ‘rooms’ learners can visit, enabling them to speak on a one-to-one or small group basis with qualified careers advisors, college, university, apprenticeship and SEND providers and even older students.
In addition to visiting themed ‘rooms’ learners can explore the online directory, giving them a shorthand overview of the places they can study and the courses offered at each. Brand new videos will showcase employers from across the region, as well as give learners the opportunity to hear current students’ views on college and university life.
There will also be lots of supporting materials for teachers and parents including lesson plans, FAQs, videos and guides.
After last year’s event, 87% of learners said they left feeling more informed about their post-GCSE options, while 75% said they had been inspired to succeed in their GCSEs. So if you’re looking for a way to boost pathway awareness and learning motivation amongst your Year 11 learners make sure to log on to www.getcareerconfident.co.uk on 7th October!
The What Next Sussex event is funded by Sussex Learning Network, East Sussex Careers Hub and Coast 2 Capital Careers Hub working with delivery partner Elev8Careers.
