University of Brighton Saturday Clubs
The University of Brighton offers secondary school students the chance to take part in our Saturday clubs. These subject-based projects are led by University of Brighton staff and current students and give you an insight into a range of subject areas. This year we are offering:
For students in year 8 and 9:
Art & Media club on 1, 8 & 15 February, from 10.30 – 13.00. In this club students will explore the topics of fashion textiles, fashion communication and take part in a screen printing workshop, with our academic staff. The theme of sustainability will run throughout the 3 weeks that the students are with us. We will also give students a tour of our amazing facilities at our city campus site. Deadline for applications is 10 January.
Formula 24 club on 1, 15 and 29 March, 12 April and race day on 27 April, from 10.00 – 14.00. Students will work in teams to build, test-drive and race an F24 electric racing car. They will take part in a variety of fun engineering activities and a local race heat, sponsored by Greenpower, against teams from across the region at Goodwood Motor Circuit. They will receive expert guidance from our technical staff and current university students at our Advanced Engineering Centre. Deadline for applications is 7 February.
For students is years 7 and 8:
Sports club on 1, 8 & 15 February, from 10.00 - 14.00. Students will take part in exciting practical sport and sport science activities which will give them an insight into different ways they can pursue sport at university and as a career. Sessions will include a variety of sports activities and games, experiments in our sport labs, and challenges in our strength and conditioning suite. Deadline for applications is 10 January.
For students in years 10 and 11:
Geography, Ecology and Environmental Science club on 1,8 & 15 February, from 10.00 - 13.00. Students will explore how we encounter nature locally and internationally, investigating people-nature interactions, the monitoring and mapping of wildlife movements, and forensic animal ecology. Full details about the session are explained here. Deadline for applications is 10 January.
Participating in our Saturday clubs is free. We ask students to commit to attending all sessions for their chosen club, so ask them to check that they are available for each session before they apply. Full details about these clubs, and the application form are on our Saturday clubs page.
As clubs are run as part of our widening participation programme, priority is given to students meeting our criteria shown here.
