University Summer Schools in Sussex – applications now open!
Would your learners like to attend a summer school to experience what it’s really like to study at university? The University of Brighton and the University of Sussex run summer schools each year and the applications are now open! There’s a brief overview of the summer schools below with links on where to find out more and how your learners can apply. They are free to attend and an amazing opportunity to help with decisions on next steps.
9th – 12th July University of Brighton
Learners take part in a programme of workshops and academic sessions in the subject they’ve chosen. Depending on the chosen subject, they might visit a gallery, build something in the engineering labs, visit the local hospital, test themselves in sports science labs or take part in a philosophical debate. In the evenings learners get to try out what it’s like to living in halls of residence. They’ll have their own bedroom, in a flat with 6–8 other students also on the summer school, and a shared living room/kitchen. There will be social activities each evening, for example, beach volleyball, quizzes and BBQs.
The summer school is completely free to take part in and includes accommodation, meals, and the costs of any trips they take part in. Applications from all students will be considered, however places are limited and priority will be given to students in year 12 who meet our widening participation criteria. 16th – 19th July University of Sussex
This summer school is for learners that are in their first year at college/sixth form studying A Levels, BTECs, T Levels and other Level 3 qualifications. They will the chance to study a subject of their choice delivered by university academics. Alongside the academic programme, learners will attend a variety of fun and informative lectures and workshops. They’ll find out about careers relating to their chosen subject, including a visit to a local industry. They’ll also get to meet current Sussex students studying a wide variety of courses.
The social programme includes a sports and societies evening, bowling and fun activities in the Student Union. The summer school includes three nights in university accommodation, sharing a flat with other students on the summer school. Travel, accommodation, food and activities are all included for free. 23rd – 26th July University of Brighton online summer school
Online summer schools offer the chance to get a taste of what it's like to study a subject you love at university. Learners will find out about the university experience from lecturers, current students and university staff. They'll take part in taster sessions and a subject-specific project that could be used to support personal statements. The programme includes lectures, project support, informal discussions, careers and university information, study skills and fun online social events. There is no cost to take part in an online summer school. All students are invited to attend. Applications can be made online here.
