Supporting LGBTQ+ students
As we celebrate PRIDE month, there’s no better time to consider ways in which you can support LGBTQ+ students to help them feel welcome, able to be themselves and to enjoy their school and college experience. Check out our round up of some of the latest resources that can inspire you:
- East Sussex County Council have created a fantastic Trans Inclusive School Kit. ‘It’s Not a Phase’ is packed with useful guidance on creating a fully inclusive and supportive whole-school policy, covering everything from pronoun changes, uniform policies and residential trips through to working with parents and carers and support services available to students and teachers. Check it out here.
- East Sussex County Council have also developed an interesting English resource for Year 9 pupils, enabling teachers to imaginatively explore the little-known history of East Sussex’s LGBT communities in a way that ties to the English curriculum. Click here to view it.
- Finally, check out our Me to You LGBTQ+ case study, outlining how we helped support St Catherine’s College, part of the Diocese of Chichester Academy Trust, to become a beacon of best practice in LGBTQ+ inclusivity. The case study is packed with practical ways in which schools can create a supportive environment for their LGBTQ+ pupils. You'll find it here.
