Meet one of our brilliant Role Models
Each month we’ll be shining the spotlight on someone doing great things in our network. This month meet Imogen, one of the students behind our innovative Role Models programme.
Our Role Models programme sees students in colleges and universities across Sussex invited to tackle the ‘life issues they wish they’d known more about when they were younger’, across a series of digital resources that are freely available to to students aged 14-19.
The series currently includes digital workbooks on ‘Worry’, ‘Body Positivity’, ‘Gender and Sexuality’, ‘The Climate Emergency’ and ‘Fake News’. Each workbook is also accompanied by separate, dedicated Teachers Resources with lesson plans and activities.

What made you decide to become a Role Model?
I already work for my university as a digital ambassador and love creating imaginative content so the role felt like a great fit. I could also see how valuable the advice I can give now could be to someone younger than me. I’ve always had a good relationship with my parents but as an only child I sometimes wished I had someone closer to my age to talk to about tricky issues. I would have loved something like this.
What do you most enjoy about your role?
I really enjoy the creativity of thinking through the best way to approach a challenging issue. I almost speak to my younger self and think ‘right Imogen, what should I tell you’. I also love being part of a community of people who are so enthusiastic about the work they’re doing and so open to sharing their own experiences and challenges to help others.
What makes you most proud about what you do?
Feeling that I might help even one person makes me really proud. The experience has also made me learn a lot about myself. I sometimes listen back to a video I’ve helped create and think ‘Imogen that’s great advice – you should take it on board yourself!’.
