‘Highly-able disadvantaged pupils are almost twice as likely as similarly talented classmates to drop out of the top third of attainment at GCSE, achieving on average a whole grade lower per subject than the most affluent highly-able children. Inequality impacts educational attainment and progression and as part of our commitment to changing this, we want to work with our partners to share expertise on addressing the impact of economic disadvantage on young people.’ [1]
We are establishing a brand-new network of leads for pupil premium, free school meals and disadvantaged learners in schools and colleges across Sussex. The aim of the network is to share good practice between colleagues working with these and other vulnerable learners. In addition to sharing good practice, there will also be research, resources and sector updates shared around helping disadvantaged learners and their families progress to further and higher education.
