New collaborative focus on wellbeing and enrichment

The pandemic has intensified the need to support student wellbeing in schools and colleges across Sussex, bringing into focus the critical need for greater collaboration in this space.

Our newly formed Wellbeing and Enrichment Community of Practice (FECs) seeks to provide that much needed collaborative space to enable local colleges to share ideas, initiatives, best practice and resources around wellbeing, mental health and and enrichment in a time effective and inspiring way.

Mariana Bortagaray, SLN project co-ordinator for the new network explains: “In conversations across our partner colleges, it became clear that colleagues were keen to work together in this area to support students within the FE sector in Sussex.”

Penny Mackay, Director of ALS from East Sussex College comments: “The Wellbeing and Enrichment Community of Practice has provided me with an opportunity to engage with and learn from colleagues in post 16 colleges. The group has a wealth of knowledge and experience which they want to share to give our students the best support, knowledge and skills to equip them for their present and future lives.”

The new collaborative network will meet once a term and over the coming months will:

  • Curate and share the most effective wellbeing, mental health and enrichment resources available to colleges
  • Act as an ideas bank for sharing new thinking and best practice amongst local educational institutions
  • Create a directory of external resources used by the group

Mariana comments: “Wellbeing is the bedrock of a positive educational experience and the group looks forward to collaborating regularly to develop effective resources and initiatives to benefit students across the region.”
