A Day of Practice-Sharing, Training and Connections
FE Sussex are coming together as a community of practice for a sustainability-themed symposium to share what they have been doing, learn together and make new connections. This comprises keynotes (including Steve Frampton MBE and DfE Sustainability and Climate Education Unit); a Panel on Green Skills with the LSIP and local employers; Workshops (including Carbon Literacy, Embedding into Curriculum, Biodiversity, NetZero and Decarbonisation) plus student action workshops and outdoor wellbeing activities.

Sixth Form Colleges: 5+ delegates / 2-4 students – SU or others with sustainability responsibilities
GFE /Land-Based: 10+ delegates / 4-5 students – SU or others with sustainability responsibilities

Registration at 8.30am
Symposium commences at 9am

Workshops (confirmed at the time of writing, but may be subject to change)
Workshop A1 - Carbon Literacy – Bexhill College: Staff and students discuss embedding Carbon Literacy into Tutorial and delivering at scale to benefit all learners.
Workshop A2 - Carbon Auditing and Net Zero – Chichester College Group and EAUC: Understanding NetZero and carbon reporting in an education context - perspectives on policy and practice.
Workshop B1 – Biodiversity – Plumpton College: Managing varied landscapes; new ways of measuring biodiversity and the employment potential and skills gaps in this rapidly expanding area of employment.
Workshop B2 - Decarbonisation and Retrofitting – East Sussex College Group and OHM Energy: Exploring partnership, good practice examples and training around decarbonisation and retrofitting for our estates.
Workshop B3 - Student Engagement (for staff) – BHASVIC: Discussion workshop on how we can engage more of our students more consistently with sustainability, looking at examples from Sussex and beyond. Bring examples!
Workshop B4 - Student Advocacy and Action (for students) – Steve Frampton MBE: Inspirational and practical examples of effective student advocacy and action nationally.
Workshop C1 - The UN Sustainable Development Goals, CPD and Embedding into Curriculum – Chichester College Group / Brighton MET
Taking a whole-college approach to embedding the 17 Sustainable Development Goals across curriculum provision in a consistent and supportive way.
Workshop C2 - The AgriFood Centre – Plumpton College: Guided behind-the-scenes tour outlining the decision-making process in the development, construction and management of this low impact building and how it fits into net zero activity at the college.
Workshop C3 - Planning Student Activity for the Year Ahead (for students) – BHASVIC: Collaborative network-building workshop for students to plan sustainability-related advocacy and action in their own colleges and across the network for 2023/24.
