What Next Sussex: Building on success
Following the success of Sussex’s first ever county-wide virtual options event in 2020, we are delighted to be teaming up with partners to bring students, parents and teachers What Next Sussex 2021…
What Next Sussex is a large scale, free, virtual options and careers event for Year 11 learners across Sussex. Developed in response to the Covid pandemic, the event will continue to be offered virtually given the popularity of the format that allows students to hear from the broadest possible spectrum of employers and educational providers in a single day.
Last year, over fifty educational providers, employers, training and apprenticeship providers were involved, giving learners an invaluable opportunity to explore all that Sussex has to offer post GCSE.
Staggeringly, 84 schools registered for last year’s event and 10,000 devices logged on across the two 1.5 hour events. A significant 86.5% of participating students said they felt more informed about their post GCSE study options following the event, while three quarters (75.4%) said they’d come away feeling more motivated to succeed in their GCSEs.
This year, the event will again involve sixth form and further education colleges, training and apprenticeship providers and people from the world of work, with learners and their parents and carers able to speak directly to representatives through live chat services.
A truly collaborative event, What Next Sussex is funded by Sussex Learning Network, East Sussex Careers Hub and Coast 2 Capital Careers Hub working with delivery partner Elev8Careers. The event is also supported by East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council, West Sussex County Council and the Sussex Council of Training Providers.

- Specially curated and created video material streamed on the day and available afterwards to support learners to make informed choices
- Live chat with Post 16 provider representatives from across Sussex and border counties
- Information showcasing Sussex based schools, colleges, apprenticeship providers, SEND providers and employers
- Tailored day sessions for students and an evening event for parents and carers
- Engaging in the event contributing to meeting Gatsby Benchmarks 2,3, 4, 5 and 7
