University of Winchester refugee week conference
The University of Winchester is proud to be hosting an exciting event as part of refugee week 2023. Learners from primary, secondary, further, and higher education, along with educators, teachers, and lecturers are invited to join in exploring refugee education.
Compassion in Education: The Inaugural Conference of University of Winchester’s Sanctuary Network is taking place on Wednesday 21st June 2023. The day will run from 9.30am – 2.30pm, followed by a meeting of the for local colleges and universities to explore shared aims and activities.
This event will provide:
Opportunities for students and learners:
- Visit a university campus, collaborate with likeminded learners, and hear from university sanctuary students
- Take part in engaging creative workshops themed around compassion in education
- Learn how to become ambassadors for creating a welcoming environment for asylum seekers and refugees in their school/college setting
Opportunities for teachers and educators:
- CPD session focused on support sanctuary learners who have experienced trauma
- Information on Schools, Colleges and Universities of Sanctuary
- Talks from leading organisations on how to support refugee education
- Networking and sharing experiences with other professionals

This event is open to staff and learners, we hope to welcome learners from sanctuary backgrounds alongside those who would like to learn more and are interested in being champions for sanctuary in their educational setting.
