New celebrity-backed mental health resource

Mental Health Awareness Week is coming up in May, providing you with the ideal opportunity to share practical support and guidance with parents, and new website ‘This May Help’ is a great place to start…

This May Help is a brand new website designed to help parents initiate challenging mental health discussions with their children. The website has been sponsored by Healthy Minds wellbeing services run by Bradford District and Craven Health partnership, but the is available free to all parents across the UK.

The website features 16 short films, each fronted by a familiar celebrity face talking through how to approach different challenging subjects. Celebrities featured include TV presenter Gary Lineker; actor Jeremy Edwards (Holby City); TV presenter and journalist Natasha Kaplinsky; Kiss FM DJ Rickie Haywood Williams; actress Tamsin Outhwaite and actor Stephen Mangan (The Split & Green Wing).

The advice featured in each of the films has been developed in conjunction with parents, carers and service users who have shared their own experiences, together with mental health experts including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) doctors and community health nurses, making the advice across the site accessible, relatable and reliable.

Subjects covered in the short films include:

  • How to support a young person who self-harms
  • How to support a child who doesn’t want to go to school
  • What to do if you think your child has an eating disorder
  • How to establish trust and boundaries with your teenager
  • Parenting a child with mental health issues
  • How to moderate your child’s gaming
  • How to prepare for a mental health crisis

With Mental Health Awareness Week running from 15-21 May this year, it’s the perfect time to raise awareness of this great new, super accessible and free mental health support resource.
