Encourage your students to sign up for a summer university experience
This summer, Year 12 students are being invited to experience information and fun-packed summer school experiences at two local Sussex universities. Find out more about how to get involved by reading on…
If you’re wanting to inspire Year 12 students to aim high or are looking to encourage young people who would be first generation university students to consider a future in higher education, this could be just the opportunity you’re looking for!
The University of Brighton and University of Sussex are both running on-campus summer school experiences for Year 12 students to give them a unique opportunity to experience first-hand what university student life is like.
If students are interested in getting a feel for life at the University of Brighton, they can opt to take part in The University of Brighton Summer School Programme, via three different routes:
An on-campus residential summer school (Tues 11th – Fri 14th July) at Moulescoomb and Falmer campus
Students have the chance to get a feel for different courses during taster sessions throughout the day, to enjoy social activities in the evening, and overnight stays in the university’s halls of residence – all supported by undergraduate students at the university.
On-campus non-residential summer schools (running from Tues 4th July to Fri 28th July) at Moulescoomb and Falmer campus
A unique opportunity to take part in an intensive project-based university experience in a specific subject, giving students a taste of studying at a higher education level while developing skills and evidence to support their UCAS applications. These non-residential summer schools run for business and law and art and design.
Online summer schools (from Tues 25th July to Fri 28th July)
These unique online sessions give students the chance to get a feel for what it’s like to study a subject they love at university, by taking part in taster sessions and working on a subject-specific project that can be used to support their UCAS personal statement.
Alternatively, students can opt to take part in the University of Sussex Summer School which takes place between Monday 17th and Thursday 20th July. This event is exclusively open to Access Plus students who meet the criteria for the university’s inclusive Access Plus programme. During the unique four-day experience, students will be able to:
· Study a subject of their choice
· Attend a variety of fun, informative lectures and workshops
· Meet current Sussex students studying a wide variety of courses
· Stay for three nights in university accommodation, sharing a flat with other Year 12 students
· Enjoy a packed social programme including a sports and film evening, social activities at the Student Union and a chance to explore Brighton
Travel, accommodation and food for the summer school experience are all included for free. You can apply for a place by filling out an online form here. Deadline for applications is Sunday 14th May and the form only takes 5-10 minutes to complete.
