Explore our new video resources to mark World Earth Day
With World Earth Day coming up on 22nd April, why not take a look at our new sustainable energy video resource and lesson plan that helps young people explore, understand and debate the current energy crisis and potential solutions…
The Energy Crisis video is just one of five new Green Careers Sussex videos produced to showcase the exciting range of career options available within the fast-growing green economy. Each one highlights the variety of roles that can be found within one of the seven areas identified by the Green Jobs Taskforce, a group formed to support the creation of two million jobs in the UK by 2030.
There are videos on the Sustainable Transport sector, Renewable Power sector, Green Business and Industry sector and Sustainable Homes & Buildings sector to explore. With each video being around three minutes long, they make perfect scene setting content for careers discussions and help introduce young people to a host of roles they might never have known existed.
With the theme of this year’s World Earth Day being 'Invest in our Planet', the videos help young people identify interesting green jobs that enable them to do just that, by helping support the UK’s net zero emissions target and other environmental goals.
The Energy Crisis video also helps young people relate a topical issue that they can see playing out in their own homes, back to the wider climate action debate and comes complete with a lesson plan to help stimulate structured and informed classroom discussion.
If young people show a particular interest in the green economy after seeing the videos you can also point them towards our Greener Careers Sussex site which features a comprehensive directory of over 500 Level 1-7 sustainability related courses and training opportunities that they can pursue across the region.
If you use our new Green Careers Sussex resources in the month ahead and are inspired by the positive reaction they provoke in your students, you might also want to take action to ensure that more young people get the chance to hear about the impacts of climate change and the positive steps they can take to address it. If you head over to the official World Earth Day site, you can sign a letter to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to commit to compulsory climate and environmental education at COP27 this November.
Together let’s make sure that future generations are not only aware of the damage that is being done to our planet but are also inspired by the many opportunities that exist for them to be part of positive change.
