Thinking about next steps can be daunting for young people, whether they’re looking to move straight into employment or onto higher education. And understanding if university is the right option can be especially daunting for young people whose families have never been through the process themselves.
Luckily, help is at hand if you have students in this situation. You can head over to our Get Career Confident website to discover a raft of ‘How To’ videos that help take young people step by step through how to make an application, how to draft a personal statement and how to understand the funding system. Our Learning4Life website is also worth checking out for more information on finance support, links to more advice on crafting personal statements and links to higher education outreach programmes worth exploring including summer school programmes that offer a taster of university for those considering it as an option.
It’s also well worth exploring the websites of the universities on our doorstep. Each has a wealth of resources available for students considering progressing to higher education, including information on how to choose a course, how to understand the different types of offers you might receive and how to choose the right accommodation. Each also gives a great flavour of what student life looks look with virtual tours of the facilities on offer, videos on student life and information on clubs and societies.
