February is LGBT+ History Month, so why not use the weeks ahead to initiate discussions around gender and sexuality and to look at ways of incorporating best practice inclusivity across your environment? Here are five practical things you can do to join in the celebrations:
- Use our Role Models ‘Gender and Sexuality’ resource as a way to get challenging conversations started. The resources come with free lesson plans and have been designed by young people for young people so use accessible language and concepts to bring the subject to life
- Download LGBT+ History Month’s list of inclusive young adult literature for young people age 13+ so that you can make your library more representative

- Make your way to the website for The Classroom - an organisation dedicated to enabling teachers to make lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people visible in the classroom. Each of their inspiring resources is searchable by key stage and subject, making it easy to find what you're looking for
- Make young people and their families aware of the brilliant, Sussex-based AllSorts Youth Project. The charity provides invaluable support for young people under 26 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or exploring their sexual orientation. It listens to them and helps connect and support them through one-to-one sessions, youth groups and family support services
