Support young people with mental health struggles to find work
Finding work when you are struggling with your mental health can be incredibly challenging. And yet positive work experiences can be key to enhancing mental health. Discover how to help young people who are struggling with their mental health secure a role they love…
Being in work gives us purpose, promotes independence and can improve the way we feel about ourselves - all key to creating a positive mental state. Yet, many young people, and those in later adult life who are struggling with their mental health, can find it hard to secure the very roles that could help them reach a more positive mental place.
If you are supporting a young person in this situation, Southdown’s Work and Wellbeing Service could well be the answer you’ve been looking for. The unique service offers support for adults age 16+ living in Sussex who are currently using a mental health service and looking to explore their future working and learning goals.
Through the Work and Wellbeing Service individuals are offered one-to-one support with a dedicated employment specialist who works with them to create a ‘journey to work’ plan tailored to their unique needs and interests. Young people are supported throughout the research and recruitment process by the Work and Wellbeing Service team and once in work they and their employers are provided with time unlimited support.
The unique employment service is offered in partnership with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and is part of Brighton & Hove’s UOK network of mental health support and the West Sussex Pathfinder service promoting better mental wellbeing.
