Sign up to take the pledge
If you’re a university wanting to publicly demonstrate your support for GRT students, a great way to do so is by signing up to the GTRSB (Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showmen & Boatmen) into Higher Education Pledge.
The GTRSB into Higher Education Pledge was launched at Buckinghamshire University in January 2021. It was designed to indicate a commitment by a higher education institute to recognise the unique needs of GTRSB students and develop a truly inclusive approach to ensure their feeling of belonging on their campuses.
A signatory to the GTRSB into Higher Education Pledge commits to a number of best practices including:
- Regular data monitoring of GTRSB student and staff numbers.
- Building a supportive and welcoming culture for GTRSB students.
- Outreach and engagement with GTRSB communities.
- Inclusive celebration and commemoration of GTRSB cultures and communities.
Since its launch just under two years ago, 11 higher education institutions have already taken the Pledge. These include: Angela Ruskin University; Buckinghamshire New University; The Institute for Contemporary Theatre, Brighton; Nelson College, London; Northumbria University; University Centre Leeds; University of Essex; University of Hull; University of Strathclyde; University of Sunderland; University of Winchester.
