With the green economy booming, National Careers Week is set to hold its first ever Green Careers Week from 7th to 12th Nov. Here’s how you can use the week of celebrations to inspire your students about the many sustainable careers opportunities available…
The UK is one of the world’s greenest countries according to a recent study. It also has one of its fastest growing green economies. Staggeringly, according to figures released in The Guardian, the UK’s low carbon economy is now worth more than £200 billion, making it almost four times the size of the country’s manufacturing sector. This makes the sector one that all students need to be familiar with, as the opportunities are not only plentiful they are also growing at a rapid rate, with new roles emerging each week.
With 60% of young people worried about the climate crisis, according to research revealed by Green Careers Week, jobs in the green economy are also rewarding – giving those who go into them the opportunity to make a positive difference and improve people’s quality of life with cleaner transport, reduced pollution and more sustainable food and energy sources.
