Greener Sussex is getting even better, bigger and brighter!
The Greener Sussex initiative – introducing young people to the ever growing range of courses, roles and opportunities in the green economy – has been a huge success since its launch last year and now it’s set to expand further…
The green economy is one of the fastest growing areas of our economy today, with over 1.2 million people now employed in the sector[1] and new roles being created each year. This huge growth presents young people with a unique opportunity to gain specialist sustainability skills that will be in hot demand in the future.
Greener Sussex is a pan-Sussex initiative designed to help young people across the region make the most of this rapidly growing opportunity. So far, as a result of the initiative 25 new sustainability courses have been rolled out across colleges in Sussex. Sussex Learning Network launched a dedicated new Greener Careers Sussex directory where students, parents and teachers can find all the latest sustainability related courses available from Levels 3-7 across the region: https://www.getcareerconfident.co.uk/greener-careers-sussex
Now, as a result of the success and popularity of the first phase, we’re delighted to have secured significant funding for a second phase of Greener Sussex. This will help us reach even more young people with comprehensive information and careers guidance on the growing green economy. In this next phase we will be:
- Extending the Greener Careers Sussex directory to include information on entry level (pre Level 3) sustainability qualifications, work based qualifications, top-up qualifications and sustainability related apprenticeships
- Producing a suite of new ‘How To’ films that will sit on our www.getcareerconfident.co.uk site and highlight how to work towards a career in the green economy
- Introducing a raft of new green economy related information and guidance to our popular What Next Sussex? careers fair (see next story)
- Launching new sustainability related learning resources for schools – with a free new video-based lesson outlining the reasons for, and impact of, the current energy crisis and its implications for the accelerated growth of the green economy
