The summer holidays can be long and challenging if family funds don’t stretch to providing healthy meals and fun activities each day. But help is on hand…
Research shows that children from low-income families can experience greater social isolation, poor nutrition and a lack of structured activities during the school holidays. But since summer 2021, new government funded HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) clubs across the UK have sought to fill this gap.
HAF clubs are fully funded to children receiving free school meals and enable children and young people aged 4-16 years to enjoy fun (free of charge) holiday activities and a nutritious meal each day. Activities provided at camps include games, sports, arts, crafts, cookery, music and nature activities.

Some HAF programmes offer dedicated clubs while others provide free spaces at existing holiday clubs.
