Help your students overcome life and study stresses with our free ‘Worry’ resources
April has, for the past 20 years marked Stress Awareness Month – an opportunity to raise awareness of stress’ causes, impact and cures. So why not use the coming weeks to help your students explore strategies for coping with their concerns?
The need for stress awareness and coping strategies has never been greater.
According to mental health charity, Young Minds, 80% of young people say the pandemic has made their mental health worse and 40% say they know they need support, but haven’t looked for it.
The impact of not dealing with stress and deteriorating mental health can be devastating. But we also know that simple, early interventions can empower young people to cope with their worries more effectively.
Our free ‘Worry’ resources give you everything you need to explore with your students:
- Why they worry
- What they worry about
- The impact of worry on their lives
- The strategies they can implement to manage their worries.
With a dedicated teacher lesson planning guide and student workbook our ‘Worry’ resources are part of a suite of Role Models resources created by older students (18+) studying across Sussex, for younger students (14-18).
Importantly, given that this is Stress Awareness Month our ‘Worry’ resources help students put their concerns into context. They help students understand the positive function worry can play in their lives by keeping them safe and motivated to succeed. But they also help them to recognise the signs that worry is taking over and give them positive coping strategies to counter feelings of being overwhelmed.
Through exercises that can be completed in a classroom or home setting students can explore how to:
- Rationalise their thoughts and use the power of counter arguments
- Tune into a happy place that can be visited physically or emotionally to combat stress
- Use positive affirmations and physical exercise to balance out worry
Each resource explores a life issue our volunteer Role Model students wish they’d known more about when they were younger. Other issues explored in the series are: Climate, Body Image, Fake News and Failure.
With the resources also signposting a wide range of other well researched organisations and websites, why not make them your first port of call for any stress awareness activity you have planned for April? It’ll be one stress off your plate and it’ll arm your students with strategies they might well come to value for life…
