Delivering Foundation degrees: An industry perspective
Andrew Murphy and Becky Taylor
Foundation degrees involve work-based and related learning in a variety of forms, including work placements, experience, and guest speakers from industry. The integration of these aspects is fundamental to achieving the objectives of the Foundation degree and therefore it is very important for course teams to work with industry representatives to create new ways in which this can happen. The purpose of this project is to evaluate, from both the perspective of the students and the lecturer, the effects of delivery of a Foundation degree module within a college, taught entirely by a representative from the relevant industry.
Project Update, April 2008
The delivery of the module is drawing to a close with two more sessions left. The industry representative has been keeping a reflective journal throughout the delivery and student feedback will be sought at the end of the module. Informal, formative feedback has also been gained throughout the year and this will be used to inform the final report. The course leaders at the college will also be asked, through the use of a survey, for their opinions on how the delivery methods have worked and any problems they have encountered.
