Biosciences conference
The Foundation Degree in Biosciences: a flexible approach to learning
Overview
The Bioscience conference was held at Plumpton College and the University of Brighton. A range of delegates, both staff and students attended. The day started with an introduction by Steve Waite on bioscience in Sussex and the development of the new Foundation Degree.
Practical workshops
We then made our way to the University for a series of practical workshops in the laboratories. These included a session on DNA fingerprinting, measuring lung capacity and even examining hyena poo under a microscope!
It was then back to Plumpton for lunch and the opportunity to talk to colleagues from other Institutions.
Improving progression within Bioscience
In the afternoon there was a round table discussion on progression. The discussion centred on ways to improve progression within Bioscience, particularly from school to FE/HE and from/within the workplace.
Highlights
The day ended with a tour of some of the facilities and the opportunity for a ride on Plumpton’s famous mechanical horse.
