Study to determine the mathematical skills needed in health and social care

Patrick Saintas and Jenny Lynden

This project is aimed at helping learners who are planning to enter higher education and professional training in health and social care to gain confidence in their number skills.

The project will develop and evaluate an e-learning package of resources which practitioners will be able to access from the Open University’s LabSpace. These resources have been developed because more complex technologies and drug therapies are requiring nurses and midwives to have more advanced number skills. The resources will include diagnostic assessments, differentiated online interactive activities to develop understanding and skills, and self-assessments to measure progress. The package has been designed by Patrick Saintas to be used within a range of learning settings, including further education colleges, work-based and community-based learning contexts.
