Supporting the career and personal development of partner college students
Erica Sosna and Sam Rhodes
A lot of energy has been used in recent years to encourage people who would not normally have considered higher education to enrol onto degree and other courses such as Foundation degrees. It is important that such new entrants to HE are given adequate support and encouragement to maximise the return from their efforts, whether this is in improved career prospects, further learning or another goal they had set for themselves.
Within the Sussex area many of these students have enrolled at partner colleges where it has been difficult for the careers service from the University of Brighton to deliver its full range of services.
This research will help determine the best ways for staff and students from partner colleges to engage with career development processes and employability, so that students can obtain successful career outcomes from their experience of higher education.
