Supporting research on vocational higher education

Discussions with staff in both universities and colleges identified a need to foster research and evaluation to inform our understanding of vocational learning across further and higher education.

As a direct response the SLN agreed to fund a number of short vocational learning research projects. Our aim was to stimulate practitioner research designed to both inform and improve practice.

The 21 research projects covered the following broad areas:

  • Foundation degrees
  • students’ experiences of vocational HE in FECs and HEIs
  • curriculum development and planning on vocational courses
  • progression from level 3 into HE for vocational learners
  • working with employers to develop and promote learning

All of the projects have been completed, and will be uploaded to this website in the near future. For further details about these events contact Adam Stewart (a.stewart@brighton.ac.uk). If you wish to find out more about individual projects then please contact the researchers direct.
