Local organisations
Sussex is a coastal sub-region of the South East of England. The structure of local government comprises of two county councils (east and west sussex) and Brighton & Hove City Council (a unitary authority) each of which also act as a local education authority (LEA).
East and West Sussex both contain a number of district or borough councils:

Brighton & Hove City Council [LEA]
Regional organisations
- The Government Office for the South East (GOSE) represents central government in the region and their role is to promote better and more effective integration of Government policies and programmes at a regional and local level.
- The South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA) is a Government-appointed body which controls strategic planning for the region. SEERA concentrates on major regional issues affecting several counties, such as housing trends and the economy, and works with Government on how to deal with these issues long-term.
