Representing businesses

Sussex Enterprise - the 9th largest Chamber of Commerce in the UK providing business advice, support, investment and representation for businesses in Sussex. Sussex Enterprise is also the business link operator for Sussex.

Federation of small business - represents the self-employed and small businesses. It has branches covering both East and West Sussex.

University-business collaborations

The Regional Development team at the University of Sussex is working to support partners in the region and to represent the University and Higher Education within local and regional fora such as Local and Regional Government, Industry Sectors, and Business Clusters.

The University of Brighton Collaborative Training Centre (CTC) has the role of enhancing the university's collaboration with industry, offering business development opportunities through government funded Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP), professional training through its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) short courses.

The University of Chichester Knowledge Exchange Programme supports development, enterprise and innovation, and to enhance workforce skills by providing access to the facilities, knowledge and expertise of the University, its academic staff and its students.

The Open University (OU) and the OU Business School work with thousands of organisations to promote professional and management skills that deliver business results. The OU has a broad range of business, management and vocational courses and flexible learning methods to suit corporate or personal training needs.

Business solutions at Northbrook College Sussex has a range of flexible and affordable training solutions and they can also can help meet individual requirements. Northbrook has enjoyed a good working relationship with employers for many years and is continually aiming to enhance this provision.

Development support for businesses

ProfitNet is a free “Learning Networks” programme covering Sussex, which is designed to help businesses:

  • Improve skills and motivation
  • Develop management skills, business planning, innovation and team working.

Other specific business development organisations

  • Wired Sussex is the business development agency for over a 1,200 digital media companies across Sussex and south east.
  • Women in business (WiB) is a not-for-profit, non-political, voluntary network for women in business. The WiB (Sussex) site covers the 3 Sussex branches: Brighton & Hove, Crawley and Horsham.
  • West Sussex for business is a business support funding website for the West Sussex area.
