bringing higher education within reach

SLN Curriculum development

Aims

We are working in seven areas of the curriculum in order to improve the opportunities for vocational learners to achieve and progress in Sussex. We're also working to develop the information, advice and guidance that supports learners in making decisions about what to study, and where.

Curriculum groups

Our curriculum groups have each developed a plan setting out how they will develop and improve what’s on offer in their area of the curriculum. They provide regular updates on their progress.

View this Powerpoint interactive diagram if you'd like to see the links and relationships between our areas of activity.

Course development

The curriculum groups’ work includes mapping current provision and identifying where there are gaps in what’s on offer. These gaps might be courses that

  • can only be studied in one location within Sussex
  • are only offered as full-time study
  • are not currently offered at all.

The groups are working to address these gaps, by developing new courses and making changes to existing courses (for example, where and how flexibly learners can study).

Progression

Curriculum groups are also linking together different learning providers in further and higher education, to develop progression agreements. These agreements will make it easier for learners in Sussex to progress into and through higher education. Our Information, Advice & Guidance Team is developing resources to make the progression routes clear for learners and their advisers in Sussex.
