5 things you need to know about travel and tourism in Sussex

1. Range of careers

The Olympics are putting UK tourism in the spotlight. In addition, service industry jobs dominate in East Sussex - in 2005, 86% of jobs in the county were in the service sector. There are a high number of small business in East Sussex - nearly three-quarters of businesses employ fewer than five people, while 87% of local companies employ 10 or fewer employees.

There's a wide range of careers available including working in customer relations, human resources, destination marketing, marketing for airlines and other transport providers, local authorities, tourist boards, tourist information centres and as tour operators and travel consultants.

2. Entry level qualifications

Entry level is the first level of the National Qualifications Framework. To find out what you can study in Sussex at levels 1 to 3 go to Futures4me - select the college nearest you and scroll down the list of subjects to find Travel and Tourism.
