Career matters
One of the main reason people choose to study is to improve their career prospects. We suggest you:
- Look through the careers advice. Remember your experience and/or qualifications may be appropriate for a number of different careers, for example, science is useful for health, sport and land-based activities.
- If you have general questions about studying, go to useful resources or use the "ask a question" box on the right.
- Use your personal planning pack to help you decide what to do next.
- Go to Foundation Degrees in Sussex if you want to search for a foundation degree, HNC or HND (Higher National Certificate or Diploma).
- If you live, work or study in Sussex, check Sussexroutes to see the special admissions arrangements in the following subject areas:
- Arts & New Media
- Biosciences
- Engineering
- Health & social care
- Sport & leisure
- Travel, Tourism & Retail
- Youth & community
- For graduate careers, take a look at prospects.
For ideas and inspiration
- Listen to an Open University careers adviser talking about career planningand use the materials in about you to analyse your strengths, skills and interests. (Although this is written for OU students, the advice is useful for everyone.)
- Have a look at jobs4u or learndirect for general information and advice about jobs, careers and appropriate training courses.
- Use the University of Brighton Careers Centre for advice about job applications and interviews. (This has been produced for University of Brighton students but the site is open to the public.)
- Go to Student Network Sussex to find out about the experiences of other Sussex students currently doing work related courses.
Choose a careers area
Choose one or more of the careers areas in the index on the left to explore further. They link to Aimhigher Key Routes information sheets on suggested careers strands and, where we have information, some advice about studying for that career in Sussex.
All the information sheets you look at will be automatically gathered into your personal planning pack. You will therefore have a complete record of the information and the web links.
