Universities minister calls on universities to offer more part-time degrees

17 Sep 2007

In an article by Gareth Vorster published on 17th September in www.PersonnelToday.com John Denham (universities minister) calls on universities to offer more part-time degrees.

Denham said: "As a country we simply cannot afford to have a higher education sector that is focused only on school and college leavers. As the Leitch report made clear, 70% of the workforce in 2020 has already left school. Many of them need university level education.

The Sussex Learning Network has responded to the need for more flexible provision of higher level learning for those in work by commissioning research into work-based learning. The SLN is supporting the development of courses that will meet demand locally, which involves looking at how course can be run in part-time modes.
