Theatrical make up and music production short courses

Northbrook College, in partnership with the Centre for Work and Learning, has developed 2 short courses in response to industry need. For details on both courses see below.
Have you thought about a career in the media or theatre make-up industry?
Are you a professional keen to study and analyse the basics of professional make up process and application? Do you want to diversify your career?
This degree-level course gives a fascinating insight into the make-up industry and provides an excellent introduction to theatre and media make up application. You will learn the key techniques for creating a variety of media make up styles and the underpinning knowledge of what a career as a make up artist entails. Demonstrations of technique will be followed by opportunities to practise on your fellow students. Research and practice study will include: analysis of ‘natural’ beauty, mask and persona and character.
You will cover:
- The role of the make up artist in Theatre and Median Skin and skincare
- Working with make up artist brushesn Skin tone / foundation selection and application
- Corrective make up techniques
- Make up styles
- Eye make up
- Analysis of character
- Reflection on practice
Entry Requirements: Level 3 and Professionals 18+
This course awards you 10 credits at Level 4 towards a Foundation Degree in Theatre Arts: Hair & Make-Up, validated by University of Brighton. Fee: £350. Additional costs: Make-up Kit approx £150. 10 weeks on Wednesday Evenings from 6pm to 9pm, starting February 2nd 2011.

New Weekly Music Business Short Course for Industry Professionals starting 2nd March 2011
How many people in your company understand how music is licensed? How much better would your company work if more of your people knew the ins and outs of copyright contractsand licensing? Many people working in the music industry only understand the area they work in. This limits them and the companythey work for. This short course – pitched at degree level but very practical – is designed to clear up common confusions for people working in the music industry. It is taught by experienced industry professionals working across a wide range of music businesses from major music events through to studios, labels and law firms. This is a great opportunity to give your employees an inspiring experience that will develop their skills and knowledge, enabling networking with high calibre music industry participants and motivating your interns to stay in a company that supports their learning.
This overview of the British music industry is a clearly structured, three hour session, one day a week course (Wednesdays), over a ten week period, starting on 2nd March and finishing on 18th May 2011 (with a twoweek break in between). You will be awarded ten credits towards a Music Business and Management degree upon completion. And it costs just £350. Which, if you’re a freelancer, you can count against tax!
