The Brighton Factor: New graduates and their local labour market
28 May 2008

The Institute for Employment Studies (IES) has just published some relevant research in conjunction with the University of Sussex’s Career Development and Employment Centre.
They contacted just over 3,000 final year students from the University of Sussex to find out about their thoughts about their time at university, their expectations and plans for when they finished their courses and whether they anticipated staying on in Brighton and Hove upon graduation. Almost 650 students from different courses and with different backgrounds completed our survey and shared with us their aspirations. The report tells us:
- what new graduates want to do, where they want to work and how they can get there
- what new graduates want from an employer
- what they want from a city when choosing where to live and work
- how well Brighton and Hove measures up to their aspirations
- and finally what the findings mean for graduates, and what their university and the city can learn from the findings.
