Symposium: Foundation Degrees five years on
1 Feb 2007

The Sussex Learning Network and the Centre for Learning and Teaching at the University of Brighton are running a symposium for all those in Sussex with an interest in Foundation Degrees.
- Date: 20 April 2007
- Time: 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Venue: City College, Brighton
Foundation degrees have been with us for five years. This period has witnessed a rapid growth in the number, range and types of degree being offered across Sussex. This symposium will be a chance to take stock and look at what we have learned about this form of vocational course that is delivered both by universities and colleges. It is a chance to look at what has worked and what hasn’t.
The day will provide the opportunity for all staff in institutions delivering foundation degrees to meet and pool their knowledge and experience. We are planning for approximately 60 delegates split between themed parallel workshops, as follows:
- Recruiting and preparing students for foundation degrees
- Engaging employers in foundation degrees
- Work-based and work-related teaching and assessment
- Progression from foundation degrees
In addition, we will explore ways in which our discussions can be continued, for example, through research, publication and lunchtime seminars.
