SLN takes a stand on student visas
14 Apr 2011

David Cameron's speech on immigration (14 March 2011) touches on concerns expressed by the SLN regarding proposals to increase restrictions on student visas
In a letter copied to Vince Cable, Business Secretary, and Damian Green, Minister for Immigration, Professor Julian Crampton, Chair of the SLN Board, stressed the value of international students to the UK economy and the importance of international relationships in a globalised marketplace.
The SLN was very pleased to receive a response from David Willetts, Minister for Universities and Science, on the 28 March 2011. In his encouraging letter Mr Willetts stated that the policy recommendations take into account the considerable financial and cultural contributions made to UK institutions by the foreign students. Mr Willetts went on to emphasise the point that any further restrictions would be part of an effort to tackle abuse of the system.
