cwl launch

The Sussex Learning Network's Centre for Working and Learning launch event, Improve your people, improve your Performance, was held at the new Huxley Building in the University of Brighton. Professor Julian Crampton, the Vice-Chancellor of the university said: “The value of undertaking higher education and training such as provided by universities and colleges makes for more effective staff who are better able to respond to changes in the market. They gain the skills to analyse their own performance and the business processes for which they are responsible and to improve them.

Attendees at the launch who included both businesses and academics heard about the experiences of a variety of Sussex employers who had put their staff on tailored higher-level courses directly related to their work which incorporated and improved their day-to-day experiences. Dr Andy Dixon, Head of the Research and Employer Engagement Office at the University of Chichester stated: “We have re-engineered what higher education means. We have put our customers, clients, students, learners at the heart of what we’re trying to do. There’s a perception that what higher education offers is a set menu. Increasingly we are moving to something which is more a la carte.”
