Never say never!
Race to success with information and advice on improving your skills at Brighton Racecourse
007 once gave some good advice: “I’ve got three words to say: Never say ‘never’!”
But many people do say ‘never’ to the idea of study and learning other skills
They say: “Me? You must be joking!” “My family doesn’t do uni!” “I’m not clever!” “I can’t afford it.” “That’s for kids.” “I’m working.” “I’m too old.” “I wouldn’t know where to start!”
If that’s how you feel, then a day at the races is a good place to start for everyone who wants to explore the wide range of subjects, qualifications, styles of learning, venues and outcomes that university level study can offer.
Sponsored by the Sussex Learning Network in conjunction with UCAS - and organised by Sussex Careers, this two day education event is open to anyone even slightly curious about increasing their own knowledge, skills and probable earning power.
For those who live and work in Sussex, universities and colleges across Sussex will show you what you could study, whether it is a shorter, flexible, work-based Foundation Degree or a 3 year honours degree. Come to the Sussex Learning Network stand for advice about local work based learning opportunities. If you prefer you can go further afield, there will be over 130 exhibitors there from throughout Great Britain.
Come and find out about funding for study and the support you can expect. Pick up information on short introductory courses, part time study and learning at work. Ask about support for those with learning or mobility needs. Explore how previous study, qualifications and experience are recognised and accredited.
In addition to university representatives there are Connexions Personal Advisers on hand to guide you through the higher education maze. For general information and advice about higher education, look for us at the Connexions stand.
To get the most out of the Fair, you need to do some research beforehand. Go to Learning Opportunities in Sussex to find out about what you can do locally and how to get back into study. Visit Sussex Careers for more hints and ideas. You can also download a copy of the programme and floor plan.
Be curious! Be ambitious! Do it for your family, your employer, and yes, do it for you… ‘because you’re worth it’!
But above all never say ‘never’ again!’ It’s an odds on certainty, you’ll find something for you.
