Foundation degree symposium – events for 2008

Following a successful conference in April 2007 to mark six years of Foundation degrees, we are pleased to announce a new series of seminars for practitioners on the same theme. The previous symposium helped us identify the main issues which were of continuing interest and the preferred format for carrying forward further debate and discussion. The programme, for which there is no charge, comprises of:

Twilight seminars

These all feature presenters with something useful to say about Foundation degrees. Sue Cundell, our first contributor, presented the recent research which she undertook for SEEC, sponsored by the SLN. The same applies to Rachel Papworth who is currently completing a study for the SLN on marketing Foundation degrees. Copies of both reports will be available to participants. Mark Price and Becky Taylor's session compared support for Foundation degree students on education and land based courses. Helen Thomas will be known to many of you as the Regional Director of Fdf. She will focus on work that she and Fdf are doing in the region to work directly with employers, and the implications it has for providers. Frank Lyons directs the national CETL for Foundation degrees and has a long history of pioneering work based learning at Portsmouth University.

15 May 2008 - Work based learning and Foundation degrees:  what works and what doesn't.

Presenter:  Frank Lyons, Director, Foundation Direct, University of Portsmouth
