Adrian Ryan - TUC

I worked for the Inland Revenue for 14 years, based in Worthing. I was a trade union representative at office, area and regional level for the Public Commercial Services union and became an elected Trade Union Learning Representative in 2001. I was involved in setting up one of the first workplace learning centres in the Inland Revenue.

In January 2005 I was seconded to TUC Learning Services as a project worker. When Learning Services moved into unionlearn I continued in this role which involved working closely with TUC affiliates to provide support for Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) across the South East region.

In August 2007 I took up the role of Regional Development Worker for unionlearn. This role involves supporting TUC-affiliated unions and ULRs as well as promoting unionlearn to brokers, providers and funding bodies.

I am passionate about learning and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn and to reach their goals, whether to advance in their workplace or for more personal reasons such as helping their children with homework.

I really enjoy my job and feel privileged to be able to work with URLs who carry out their role with such enthusiasm and commitment. The most rewarding experience in my work is to see learners celebrating their achievements. To see a learner have the confidence to stand up in front of an audience and reflect on the way learning has changed their life is inspirational.
