Sussex Learning Network

bringing higher education within reach

Arts & New Media

The arts are a major employer in their own right and play a vital role in the cultural life and well being of the South East. This trend is set to continue over the next ten years due to the focus provided by major cultural events, the growth in population, and the spread of accessible technologies.

Within the South East, Sussex has for a long time enjoyed a reputation for creativity and innovation in visual arts, performance and music. The area attracts industry and small businesses that are renowned for producing and promoting innovative work. Higher education has also made a major contribution to the cultural economy and life of the area. The focus of our work is on the three interrelated subjects of performance, design and new media. In each we are seeking to develop the curriculum and provide clear access routes in order to attract a wider range of learners to higher education. We aim to build closer links with employers and other organisations in the arts so that we can respond to the latest developments in the sector. We will thus be able to support future growth in activity by providing the highest quality vocational training.

See the Arts & New Media update in the Practitioner Network for more details about our work.
